Super Eagles of Nigeria are in Pot 1 for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers ahead of the main draws on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, in Cairo, Egypt.
Nigeria make Pot 1 as a result of their position on the FIFA Ranking where they are 31st position and third in Africa.
It is the latest FIFA Ranking released in December 2019 that was used to determine the pots for the draw.
Being in Pot 1 means that the Gernot Rohr’s men will avoid other African heavyweights as Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and bitter rivals, Ghana and Cameroon.
Since their FIFA World Cup debut in 1994, Nigeria have qualified for six of the last seven editions, missing only the 2006 edition and have reached the Round-of-16 three times.
