Ahmed Musa has won the Sports Personality of the Year at the 2018 Future Awards Africa.
The award is aimed at celebrating young, diverse and innovative young Africans between the ages of 18 and 31, who are making a difference through social good, social enterprise, and creativity.
Musa defeated teammate, Wilfred Ndidi, national hurdler Oluwatobiloba Amusan, basketballer Evelyn Akahtor and taekwondo fighter Thursdaline Peter to the converted prize.
The award further adds to Musa’s honours who was also voted sportsman of the year at the 2018 Nigerian Sports Awards and also led the Eagles to AFCON qualification with a game to spare, standing in for Mikel Obi as captain.
In 2018 the Super Eagles forward also became the first Nigerian to score four goals at the FIFA World Cup when he netted twice against Iceland in Russia to add to the two he had scored in Brazil 4 years ago.
Other winners on the night were singer Simisola popularly known as Simi, actress Zainab Balogun, and comedian Mark Angel.
