Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom is currently facing an uncertain future with Eredivisie giants Ajax, according to Football Transfers.
Despite only just moving to the Johan Cruyff ArenA for £12.2 million, the 28-year-old could be on his way out this summer having made just three league starts this term, although he has managed to rack up an impressive six goals.
Akpom's spell at Ajax has not gone as planned so far as admitted by the man himself in an interview with ESPN.
“It’s been a catastrophe, personally and for the team,”
“I haven’t felt settled for two months, it’s only this week that I’ve felt settled. I’ve been in a hotel by myself, I’ve not been playing and I feel like I’ve been alone here, but this week I feel back to my normal self.”
“I feel like I’ve been alone, but I’ve still had the support of my teammates I guess, but it’s been dark days for us all – It’s not been the normal Ajax.”
A return to English football could be on the cards for Chuba Akpom
Following an impressive 2022-23 campaign with Middlesborough which saw him pick up the Championship Golden Boot and Players' Player of the Year awards, Akpom enjoyed a good end to his first stint in English football.
The striker was linked with a switch to Crystal Palace and Fulham during the January transfer window as he looked to get more playing minutes.
Ahead of a summer window that holds much uncertainty, Akpom could be set for a second stint in England with Ajax looking to cut their losses on the Nigerian.
Jose Peseiro should call up Chuba Akpom to the Nigeria National Team, whether he is still at Ajax or at another club this summer. Also, try to call up Curtis Jones @curtisjr_10 aswell, especially if Gareth Southgate (shockingly) doesn't call him up for this year's Euros. 🇳🇬 pic.twitter.com/FYfDqle4t7

Akpom has shown his talent on numerous occasions this term and he is expected to have plenty of competitors for his signature come the end of the current season.
