Ander Herrera and Juan Mata Hold Man Utd To Ransom

Manchester United will not allow itself to be held to ransom by midfield stars Ander Herrera and Juan Mata.

The Spanish duo’s contract runs out this summer and can leave for free on June 30, since they’ve failed to agree extensions with the Reds.

Their representatives are reportedly asking for exorbitant wages for their clients to agree to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season.

United are unwilling to meet those demands for the 29 and 30-year-old respectively, which has led to a deadlock in talks with their reps.

According to sources, Herrera's representatives are asking for a contract extension towards something the club are unwilling to do.

Ander Herrera and Juan Mata

The Red Devils’ willingness to pay Alexis Sanchez £500,000-a-week has led to players demanding bigger salaries.

While Mata is asking for less than Herrera, United are adamant both players will need to lower their wage demands if extensions are going to be agreed.

Herrera, on the other hand, wants more than double his current wage of £120,000-a-week, while Mata, who earns around £140,000-a-week, is also looking for a significant hike to extend.

Though United say they want both to stay, they believe the wage demands put forward are not reflective of their status, as the Reds set to make one, possibly two, marquee midfield signings this summer.
