Why Barcelona Must Not Sign Alvaro Morata

Luis Suarez's form has been inconsistent this season as he starts his slow but sure decline, although he stepped up in the absence of Lionel Messi with a number of top performances such as his hat-trick against Real Madrid.

At the age of 31, the Uruguayan striker needs to be replaced in the next few seasons or at least a long-term replacement needs to be brought in to begin providing him with stern competition for his place.

According to RAC1, there have been meetings between Alvaro Morata's representatives and Barca as he pushes for a move away from Chelsea due to his issues there.

Jordi Alba has welcomed a move for the 26-year-old due to their time together in the Spanish national team and his seeming reputation as a top striker even though he hasn't shown that form for a long time.

It would be a bizarre move considering Morata used to play for Real Madrid and was part of the side that won the European double in the 2016/17 season.

His time at Chelsea is perhaps the first time he has been used as the main striker and he appears to be short of the mentality or consistency to fulfil this role at a top club.

During his time at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane, he was mostly used as the backup striker for less vital matches or as a late substitution to change games which suited him because there was less pressure in these roles.

20 goals and six assists in 1903 minutes is his best return, but he hasn't come close to replicating that in any other season so he is way too inconsistent for a top club like Barcelona.

Barca don't need him for this role while the fee and wages needed to pry him away would make him an extremely expensive option for a minor role.

There are younger strikers who could provide more in terms of longevity while also being better suited to the club.
