Liverpool’s opening bid for Croatia international Domagoj Vida has reportedly been rejected by Besiktas.
Liverpool are understood to have lodged an €18m (£15.9m) offer for Vida, who has impressed alongside current Liverpool player Dejan Lovren at this summer's World Cup.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for defensive fortification ahead of the 2018-19 season and is thought to have found the centre-back as his number one target.
However, 90min.com reports that the Reds are still some way short of Besiktas's valuation of Vida, with the Turkish outfit holding out for an offer closer to €35m (£31m).
The player only joined Besiktas on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev in January, but the club are willing to let the 29-year-old go this summer if they get a considerable bid.
The likes of Fulham, Everton as well as West Ham United have also been linked with Vida but are prone to be put off by the asking price.
