The Frenchman's exit from Real came as shock to the footballing world.

Soon after his exit, Ronaldo, who was Madrid's all-time highest goalscorer, also switched loyalties to Juventus.

According to Bleacher Report's Richard Fitzpatrick, Calderon said that Zidane wanted Ronaldo to stay and Gareth Bale to be moved from Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid president Florentino Perez did the exact opposite and that's when Zidane made up his mind to leave.

“He insisted on keeping Cristiano and transferring Bale,” Calderon said, before adding, “The president did completely the opposite.

“ Zidane also wanted to sign some players and transfer others-apart from Bale-but he didn't get [his wishes], so he decided to leave. And he was right.”
