Alex Iwobi‘s fitness test is exciting Gunners coach Unai Emery but Four Arsenal players are reportedly going to face late fitness tests to decide whether they will be fit for the Newcastle clash on Saturday.
Arsenal travel to St James’ Park looking to secure a third straight Premier League win having picked up victories against West Ham and Cardiff City.
The Gunners were beaten on Tyneside last season in spite of taking an early lead through Alexandre Lacazette’s goal and so will be out to even the score of that defeat this time around.
Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi will return to the team having recovered from the illness that saw him ruled out against Cardiff, but four of the club’s international stars will be checked over at London Colney before a decision is made as to whether they are fit enough to travel with the squad on Friday.
Those players include Granit Xhaka, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis and Danny Welbeck.
“I hope that they come back well and prepare for the match in Newcastle,” said Emery.
Arsenal is ninth in the Premier League table following their back to back victories against West Ham and Cardiff and will be looking to secure a second straight away win.
It took until November 26 for Arsenal to achieve that last season, so Emery is well conscious of the import of getting a result this weekend.
“Saturday is another important step,” he said.
“I want us to continue showing out personality on the pitch.
“We are in a process and we need wins, so it was very important in our last match that we won.
“We want to continue improving things at Newcastle.”
