Rohr Inviting Awoniyi Was Completely Spot On - Amuneke

Former Nigerian midfielder, Emmanuel Amunike has lauded the invitation of Uion Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central Africa Republic (CAR).

Awoniyi, who is currently banging goals in the German Bundesliga, was given an invitation to replace Terem Moffi by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr.

Recall that Moffi was named as replacement for Everton winger Alex Iwobi on Friday. The forward however sustained an injury in Lorient’s 1-1 draw against Clermont on Sunday and has now been ruled out of the double-header.

However, in a chat with Goalballlive.com, the former Barcelona star urged the former Under-17 striker to take advantage of this rare opportunity against CAR.

“It is sad that Moffi won't be part of the team, however, the invitation of Taiwo Awoniyi was totally spot on by Gernot Rohr considering the fact that the young man is firing goals from all cylindar.

“I just hope he will take advantage of this great opportunity to make a big statement knowing fully that the Africa Cup of Nations is just around the corner.”
