Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Lionel Messi’s playing days will end at Barcelona after talking to the Argentinian about his future.
Messi’s friction with Barcelona’s hierarchy has been well-documented in recent weeks following the pressure put on the squad to accept a 70 per cent pay cut amid the crisis.
And the 32-year-old has even been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp.
Inter Milan and Manchester City are the two major potential suitors, with Messi reportedly able to leave on a free transfer this summer as part of a clause in his contract.
Now when asked about the recent rumours surrounding his former team-mate, Fabregas told Cadena Cope: ‘’I speak with Messi and his idea has always been to end his career at Barcelona.
‘‘Many things can happen at a club but I am fully confident that his career will end at Barca.’’
Meanwhile, in the interview, the Monaco midfielder revealed that he had ‘quite a few options’ to join Real Madrid in his career and refused to rule out a coaching role with Barca’s arch-rivals in the future.
