The Football Association have expressed regret for a tweet apparently mocking Harry Kane's performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday.
The Red Devils produced a 2-1 victory to beat Spurs at Wembley Stadium, leading to a tweet from the official FA Cup account that had a short clip of United center-back, Chris Smalling saying Kane's name beneath a piece of text that read: ‘What's that in your pocket, Chris?'
Following the fight from the tweet, an FA spokesperson has said: “We have written to both clubs to apologize for any offense caused.”
The tweet has also been taken down from the official FA.
Smalling and Kane will likely feature together in the FIFA 2018 World Cup this summer, should Gareth Southgate choose to give the United defender a place in his 23-man England squad.
