ike Ugbo Chosen Nigeria Over England

Genk forward, Ike Ugbo, has revealed that playing at the FIFA World Cup forced his decision to commit his international allegiance to Nigeria over England.

Ugbo was born in Lewisham to a Nigerian father and has represented the Three Lions at Under-17 and Under-20 levels.

Nevertheless, in 2020 the 22-year-old chose to play for the Super Eagles at the senior level.

In a chat with Sport Voetbal Magazine, he said: “I chose Nigeria and right now, we’re getting the papers in order.

“The chance of playing at the Fifa World Cup is part of it. I think I have more chances with Nigeria than with England.

“Also, I grew up with images of the [Nigeria] national team and always followed their strikers, especially the guys who came to England.”
