English Premier League Legend Alan Shearer has named Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi in his Matchweek 8 Team of the week.

Everton, going into the weekend’s game, were yet to record a win after six Premier League games, with four draws and two defeats. Although their performances in recent games does not give a true picture of their current situation, some of the fans have been disappointed about the poor start to the season.

However, they finally got their maiden win of the campaign on Sunday after a hard-fought 1-0 success against West Ham.

Super Eagles midfielder Iwobi, without any doubt, is one of the most-improved players in the English top-flight this season and has been deployed in various positions under Frank Lampard this season.

The 26-year-old continued in the same vein against the hammers, as he he provided the key contribution in ensuring his side bag their win of the campaign.

Iwobi provided the assist for Neal Maupay’s 53rd-minute goal which was enough to earn Everton the win. In fact, his excellent showing in the game earned him the Everton fans’ player of the match award.

Well, Iwobi’s displays have also been recognized by one of the greatest strikers to ever grace the pitch.

Iwobi was listed in the midfield alongside Palhinha(Fulham), Xhaka, and De Bruyne(Manchester City). The other seven players are Neto(Bournemouth) Dias(Manchester City), Tarkowski(Everton), Son(Tottenham), Jesus(Arsenal), and Grealish(Manchester City).

I will definitely wear Nigeria’s Atlanta 96 jersey – Iwobi

Participating in a game on Super Sport’s social media channel where he got to rate the jerseys of various African countries in the 1990s down to the 2000s, Iwobi said he will definitely wear Nigeria’s Atlanta ‘96 kit.

“Which year is this” Iwobi asked when he was shown a photo of Nigeria’s Atlanta’ 96 jersey.

He is told 96 and said: “That is the year I was born but this is nice, definitely I will wear this, I will wear with jeans. He added: “We [Nigeria] have come a long way [in terms of jerseys] but this one, I will wear it 100 percent.”

When shown South Africa’s jersey, he said “I like this, it is loud though but I like the kit.”

Ivory Coast’s jersey in 1997 saw Iwobi completely lacking ideas and he admitted: “I don’t know what nationality this is, is it orange in colour?”

“Noo… I would have never guessed that, this is loud though.”

Iwobi is currently in the Super Eagles camp in preparation for the friendly games against Algeria on September 27. He would hope to continue his excellent form when Nigeria take on the Foxes in Oran.
