John Mikel Obi, 4 Other Players Leave Middlesbrough

Mikel Obi Leaves Middlesbrough

John Obi Mikel is now a free agent after Middlesbrough decided not to offer him a new contract.

The Super Eagles captain joined Boro on a short-term deal in January transfer window following a spell at Chinese club Tianjin TEDA and made 18 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship scoring his only goal for the club on the final day of the season against Rotherham United.

Mikel will be searching for new clubs, with plenty of Premier League experience.

Boro have also decided to let go of Stewart Downing, 40-year-old goalkeeper Konstantopoulos, who has been at the Riverside since 2013, and fellow ‘keeper Lonergan, who went on loan at Rochdale in February and failed to make an appearance for Boro.
