Jose Mourinho’s handling of Harry Kane had been questioned by Arsenal legend Paul Merson, who reckons the Tottenham striker would never win a Golden Boot under The Special One.
But after last night’s game, Mourinho will be waking up with a huge smile on his face today after the England captain kept up his fine form under him.
Spurs won West Ham 2-0 to kickstart their season following the Premier League restart.
Tottenham mustered a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in their first game back.
But they looked in fine fettle against the Hammers, especially Kane – who stuttered against the Red Devils.
Kane scored late on to make it 2-0 and confirm the three points.
It was the eighth time Kane had scored under Mourinho in 12 appearances – and it could not come at a better time for the Portuguese coach.
The ex- Chelsea coach launched a surprising defence of his treatment of strikers when called under question by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
It was claimed that Kane would not be able to win the Golden Boot under him due to his pragmatic style.
