Lampard Speaks On Havertz And Werner’s Debut Performances In Brighton Win

Kai Havertz and Timo Werner were handed their Chelsea debuts in a 3-1 win away at Brighton on Monday night.

Frank Lampard was full of praise for his new signings with goals from Jorginho, Reece James and Kurt Zouma enough to seal three points despite Leandro Trossard netting an equaliser for the hosts.

“It’s not a game that you’d come away and say [Havertz] had 10 vintage moments, but I thought there were moments of real quality and calmness,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s a big ask, there’s a lot on his shoulders for the signing that he was, the fact that he’s young coming to a different league.

“He plays the game at such a pace in terms of his quality and how he receives the ball, I thought we saw a few glimpses of that.

“We also saw him sprint back 80 yards to make a defensive tackle or interception having giving the ball away.

“So everything that I’ve seen about him in terms of his character is spot on and his quality’s going to come through.

“It’s asking a lot of him tonight, but I think we saw glimpses and we’re going to see a lot more of him. I think he’s a hugely talented young player.

When asked if Werner showed exactly how threatening he can be, Lampard said: “Yeah we did, we did. And we know that. I love the way that Timo pops up in different areas. He’s not a frontman that attaches to centre-backs so much.’’
