Lionel Messi‘s father has arrived in Barcelona for talks with the club as Manchester City continue to be linked with signing the forward.
Jorge played down any links between his son and City as he arrived in Barca for talks to resolve the forward's contract dispute.
A week of speculation and missed training sessions from Messi has now resulted in his father and agent, Messi Sr, arrive in Barcelona for talks with club president Josep Bartomeu to try and resolve the disagreement.
And on arrival in Barcelona, Messi’s dad was asked about the chances of a compromise being reached, and also the links to City, who are waiting to see if they are able to make a move for the best player in the world.
According to Deportes Cuatro, Jorge Messi said it would be difficult for his son to remain at Barcelona, but he ‘doesn't know' about a move to City.
They report that Messi Sr was asked if his son would remain at Barcelona, to which he replied: “I don't know.”
When pressed to answer how he expected the talks to go, he said it would be ‘difficult' for his son to stay at the Nou Camp.
The report then asked if City was a good option, and whether he spoke to Pep Guardiola. Reports have suggested Guardiola advised Messi to remain at Barcelona before handing in his transfer request.
“I don't know, there is nothing,” Messi Sr replied. “I didn't talk to Pep.”
Finally, Jorge Messi was asked how he saw Lionel's future at Barcelona, with the reply: “Difficult, difficult.”
