Liverpool To Bridge Man City Gap By Signing This Star

Liverpool Signing Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher have urged the Reds to explore the prospect of re-signing Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

The player-turned-pundit does not understand why the 26-year-old received a more hostile reception on his return to Merseyside than other past players.

Luis Suarez and Coutinho played against the Reds for the first time since they left in their Champions League semi-final tie.

Liverpool received £142m and Coutinho has since endured a chaotic 18 months at Camp Nou, unable to settle in Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Barca fans have turned on Liverpool’s former hero, and Carragher feels a player with his talent in his position is exactly what Jurgen Klopp need to bridge the gap to rivals Manchester City.

City pipped Liverpool to their first Premier League title on Sunday, and with the transfer window now open, the Catalans are ready to sell Coutinho.

“I wouldn't say I would be actively going to get him, but if there was a possibility of bringing Coutinho back for decent money, and Barca wanted to cut their losses a little bit because it hasn't worked out, then I'd do that,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.

“Would he be welcomed back? I'm not sure. But he should be. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be.

“We lack that player in the squad. We have it in Lallana and Shaqiri, but this is a different level of player.

“It's the one thing Man City have on us, they have Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne. We don't have that type of player.”
