Manchester City are keen on signing Leicester City defenders Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell in a bumper £125 million double deal, according to The Daily Star.
The 26-year-old Maguire has been linked with rivals Manchester United for a long time now, but Leicester’s exorbitant £80 million valuations of him has put Ed Woodward off.
City boss is on the hunt for a replacement for Vincent Kompany who announced his departure from the Etihad at the end of the season, taking up a player-manager role at boyhood club Anderlecht.
Maguire is similar to Kompany in several ways – if City choose to meet Leicester’s asking fee, Maguire would eclipse Virgil van Dijk to become the most expensive defender of all time.
Ben Chilwell is a highly rated youngster who is a graduate of Leicester’s own academy.
The 22-year-old is extremely comfortable with his defensive duties and also tries to get forward as much as he can, the potential is clearly there.
New Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers doesn’t want to let his star defenders leave, as he wants to build his defence around the two of them.
However, the eye-watering amounts involved could persuade him to consider a sale.
