Manchester City were interested in signing Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo but they have now reportedly pulled out of the race.
According to the BBC, the Premier League champions have now decided against making a move for the global superstar having originally considered the possibility.
And it leaves the door open to rivals Manchester United to seal a transfer for the former Old Trafford hero.
Reports on Friday suggested United were confident in pipping City to Ronaldo, who left Manchester in 2009.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had told Ronaldo he knows where United is if he wanted to leave Juventus.
“I didn’t think Cristiano was gonna turn out leaving Juventus,” Solskjaer said. “And it’s been speculation this morning and the last few days.
“And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we’re here.”
