Manchester United have opened a £36m bid for Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester.
Tielemans surely impressed in his time at the King Power, becoming a key player under Brendan Rodgers and eventually leading the Foxes to bid £36m for his full-time services.
And the Belgian recently stating that it is ‘unlikely’ he will return to Ligue 1 looked to be a huge boost for Rodgers and co.
However, according to Belgian outlet DH.be, United have matched Leicester’s £36m bid for the player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a new central midfielder following reports linking Paul Pogba with a move away from Old Trafford.
Pogba confirmed he will be departing United over the weekend, saying to reporters in Tokyo: “After this season and all that has happened, and it was my best season, I think it might be a good time for me to take up a new challenge elsewhere.”
Real Madrid and Juventus are reportedly frontrunners in the race to sign Pogba.
The Red Devils are not the only Premier League outfit rumoured to be competing with Leicester for Tielemans, nevertheless.
Manchester City and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for him.
When questioned on whether Leicester will sign Tielemans permanently towards the end of the season, Foxes boss Rodgers replied: “I’m not sure. I think there will be a dialogue between both clubs.”
