Man Utd To Send Outcast Jesse Lingard To Sheffield Utd Next Month

Manchester United outcast Jesse Lingard has played just two games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season – in the EFL Cup back in September – and has not started a top-flight game since January 1.

The former England international is about to enter the final six months of his contract, and his days at Old Trafford appear to be numbered.

But Chris Wilder's Sheffield United could be about to come to the 28-year-old's rescue.

Solskjaer spoke with Wilder at length over a loan deal for Lingard following the Red Devils' 3-2 win at Bramall Lane on Thursday, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The clubs have a good relationship already, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson having spent two years on loan at Sheffield United before returning to Old Trafford this season to battle David de Gea for the No1 spot.

A sticking point could be Lingard's wages, with the Red Devils hoping the Blades can pay the majority of his £100,000 per week pay packet.

Lingard's contract expires at the end of this season, but United are expected to trigger a one-year extension so they can recoup a transfer fee for him next summer.
