Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found the man he wants to partner Harry Maguire in defense.
The Red Devils had several targets on their shortlist, including Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde, with neither Eric Bailly nor Victor Lindelof impressing.
But it now appears that the Red Devils have turned their full attention to the highly-rated Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.
According to Spanish radio show El Larguero, United are now leading the race to sign the 24-year-old.
They also claim that United are aiming to complete the deal before Torres links up with the Spanish national team for this summer’s European Championships.
United want to get a deal done so early in the window because the release clause in Torres’ contract will rise by more than £10million if he does not move before the final 15 days of the transfer window.
Thankfully for the Red Devils, they are said to be in advanced talks with Villarreal, which should see them sign the Spanish international for £43.4m, instead of a higher fee.
