Man Utd Hijack Arsenal’s Proposed Deal To Sign Defender In £22m Deal

Manchester United Sign Thomas Meunier

According to Belgian outlet DH.be, Manchester United are closing in on a £22m deal to sign Thomas Meunier after fending off interest from Arsenal to land the Belgian international.

The Paris Saint-Germain right-back’s future has been in doubt in recent months as he has just one year remaining on his contract and the French giants look set to cash-in as Meunier has so far failed to agree terms over an extension.

The situation alerted Premier League clubs with the Gunners and Red Devils strongly linked with a move this summer and it initially seemed like Arsenal were leading the race to sign the 27-year-old.

The Belgian right-back emerged as a prime target and Gazzetta Dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claimed on Friday that the Gunners were in advanced talks with PSG to secure a deal after offering the full-back a five-year contract.

However, it looks like Man Utd have now commandeered Arsenal’s proposed deal as Belgian outlet DH.be claim the Red Devils are on the verge of sealing a deal to sign Meunier after agreeing to meet PSG’s £22m [€25m] asking price.

The report says Man Utd are working hard trying to wrap-up the deal speedily after Meunier made it explicit he was ready to shun Arsenal’s advances in favour of moving to Old Trafford being a boyhood United fan.

Ashley Young turns 34 next month so it appears Meunier has been identified as a perfect replacement.
