Diego Maradona has disclosed that he is “fine” after being seen by a doctor during Argentina's dramatic 2-1 win over Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup last night.
Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo scored a late winner for the Argentines, who squeezed into the round of 16 of the tournament despite only winning one of their three group games at this summer's competition.
The Argentina legend was seen by medical staff at the interval of the World Cup match having complained of neck pain, but Maradona has now eased concerns over his health.
“I want to tell everyone that I am fine,” Maradona posted on his official Instagram page. “I was checked by a doctor and he recommended me to go home before the second half, but I wanted to stay because we were risking it all.
“How could I leave? I send a kiss to everyone, thanks for the support!”
Maradona was seen celebrating crazily when Rojo scored Argentina's second goal of the night but has denied reports that he was taken to hospital after the game.
