Gernot Rohr has insisted that he is solely responsible for the invitation and selection of players for the national team.
Speaking at an interactive session with sports editors in Lagos yesterday, Rohr said he had never been dictated to by the NFF technical committee on players to invite or used for matches.
Although he admitted he always submits his list of players, the Super Eagles coach said he has a clause that says he would never be dictated to on which player to invite or use for matches.
Speaking on Victor Moses' decision to quit Super Eagles Rohr stated that he did his best to ensure that the Chelsea winger did not quit the national team after Nigeria's poor outing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but these efforts ended in futility.
“I tried to convince him that it was not the best time to retire but he said he wanted to focus on his club career. I hope he will get an opportunity to play for Chelsea or with another club.”
Victor Moses who helped Nigeria win her first Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2013 after 19 years and also featured at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups has had a difficult time at Chelsea since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri playing just twice in the ongoing English Premier League.
