Liverpool have boosted their chase of Lille star Nicolas Pepe by tabling a €80M (£71m) bid for the gifted winger.
The Reds are one of the numerous clubs keen on the Ivory Coast international with Arsenal and Manchester United also keeping tabs on the player.
But it seems Liverpool have moved ahead of their rivals in the race to his signature with Gazzetto dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claiming a five-year deal has now been put forward to the 24-year-old attacker with Jurgen Klopp keen on securing his first summer signing,
Despite Klopp having an abundance of attacking talent at his disposal, talk about Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, it seems the German is keen on bringing in a fresh face to give more competition as they look to go one better in the league next season.
Lille have made no secret of Pepe’s situation with the club resigned to losing their star man this summer.
But with loads of clubs showing interest, they know they will be able to push close to the reported £80m price tag they’ve placed on him.
Pepe scored 22 goals in 38 games in Ligue 1 last season as Lille finished second, 16 points behind champions PSG.
