Mertesacker is Arsenal’s academy manager and previously played for the side and has been given the nod to support the Swede in his new role on Sunday.
A statement from Arsenal said: ‘’Arsenal academy manager Per Mertesacker will be supporting interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg in the short-term.
‘’Per will be in the dugout at Carrow Road tomorrow.’’
Earlier on Saturday, Ljungberg hinted that he would be pulling together a staff for the trip to face the Canaries.
He told Sky Sports: ‘’I’ve been asked to organise what I can and the staff.
‘’It’s been a quick turnaround, trying to look at Norwich and trying to sort everything out.
‘’Hopefully, we’ll have everything in place for the game tomorrow.’’
Ljungberg goes into the Norwich clash with his Arsenal side having failed to win any of their last seven games in all competitions.
