Head coach Gernot Rohr has urged Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun to leave Brighton before the end of the European summer transfer window in search of first-team football.
The European transfer window closes September 2, which means the 31-year-old defender can still make a move away from the English Premier League.
Balogun, who is in the final year of his contract at Brighton, has struggled to feature regularly for the Seagulls since he joined on a free in the summer of 2018.
He has failed to dislodge the centre-back pairing of Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk of Brighton’s defence.
The Nigerian international, who has been capped 31 times by Nigeria, made only 10 appearances for Brighton in his debut season and has been left out of the Graham Potter’s matchday squad in their opening two Premier League games this season.
“On Leon Balogun, I think he should move to get regular playing time,” Rohr told Sports Extra.
“We tell them sometimes that it’s better to play in a smaller club than to go to a big club in the Premier League and you don’t play.
“He’s not getting any younger at 30 now, which means that if he’s not playing, it will be more difficult for him to be fit.”
