Jose Mourinho is said to have been summoned for talks on Monday morning as Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy made the decision to sack him.
The writing had appeared on the wall for the Portuguese manager in recent months with the north London club putting in increasingly poor performances.
Reports elsewhere claim Tottenham chiefs came to their decision following the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
Though Levy insists he has enjoyed working with Mourinho, who was appointed at the end of 2019.
“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.
“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
“He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
Though reports suggest Mourinho’s sacking is based purely on recent results with Tottenham four points off fourth-placed Chelsea and not because of their intention to be one of 12 founding members of the European Super League.
