Neymar was linked with moves to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.
Barca was said to be the only one Neymar was interested in.
And it appears a text he received from an old team-mate may have sparked his attempts to return to the Nou Camp.
It was revealed earlier this summer that Barcelona captain Lionel Messi was pushing the club to re-sign Neymar amid the rumours he was unsettled in France.
As per L’Equipe, the Argentine sent his friend a text message after hearing from Neymar himself of his desire to leave PSG.
Messi reportedly wrote: “We need you to regain the Champions League.”
The 32-year-old then appealed to Barcelona officials in a similar vein in the hope of persuading them to splash the cash on the Brazilian superstar.
After months of speculation, Neymar’s entourage finally gave up on pushing for a deal on Sunday, according to AS.
Such was his desire to leave the French capital, he was reportedly willing to pay £18m of his own money to force through a move.
But with that tactic also not working out, it appears the Brazilian has resigned himself to the Parc des Princes until at least January.
