Claims by Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, that players from the Nigeria Professional Football League are not good enough to play for the national team has come under heavy scrutiny by Plateau United FC of Jos Captain, Elisha Golbe.
Golbe who spoke with Daily Trust said there are quality players in the league who if given opportunity will perform beyond expectations.
“I disagree with Gernot Rohr that NPFL players are not good for the Super Eagles. For every player in Europe is an opportunity as we can't compare their league with ours,” he said.
He further restated that the Rohr may have picked the wrong players for the Super Eagles.
Rohr in November while speaking to reporters prior to the Nations Cup qualifier against Seychelles said he is not keen to invite players from the NPFL to his Super Eagles squad because they are not better than the players playing in Europe.
“There is a problem with the organization of the championship. I have told you that I cannot take the local players who are not playing and can't show that they are better than the players playing in Europe.
“Most of the players playing for the Super Eagles are playing regularly in their championships in Belgium, in Germany and in France. They are playing at a high level over there,” he said.
