Serbia suffers in the hands of Switzerland as they lose 1-2

Serbia were unable to book a place in the knockout round of the 2018 World Cup with a match to spare as they were beaten 2-1 by Switzerland in Group E on Friday night.

Mladen Krstajic's team entered the match knowing that a win would see them advance to the knock out stage but Granit Xhaka's second-half effort canceled an early header from Aleksandar Mitrovic, before Xherdan Shaqiri won it for Switzerland in the last minute.

Switzerland now joins Brazil on four points, while Serbia sits third on three points ahead of the final matchday, which sees Switzerland take on Rica who are already eliminated and Serbia trade tackle with Brazil.
