Segun Odegbami has revealed that South Africans are the favourite going into one of the quarterfinal clash of this year’s AFCON edition against Nigeria.
Nigeria has dominated the Bafana Bafana in the past, including a 2-0 victory in the semi-final of AFCON back in the year 2000, however, the Staut Baxter side earned a famous victory in Uyo, before settling for a 1-1 draw at FNB stadium when both sides clashed during the qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of the latest clash in Cairo on Wednesday, the Nigeria 1980 African Cup of Nations hero says, it’s longer business as usual for the Super Eagles, as the South Africans have worked out a formula to help them win the recent matches against the Nigerians.
“We are the underdogs, let me put it like that because they [South Africa] have a psychological advantage,”
“In the past couple of games that we have played, we have not been able to beat them.
“The South Africans are on top. For so many years, we were just beating them everywhere, at home or away but suddenly in the recent years they have come up and now they believe they know how to deal with us so that psychology will help them”
Odegbami stressed further, warning the Gernot Rohr’s side not to get carried away with the come back win over Cameroon on Saturday, as he revealed that the Bafana Bafana poised different threat.
“South Africa are the most dangerous. They didn’t start well, but now they are doing well,” Odegbami continued.
“So, Nigeria have to be very, very careful against them because once we can get rid of them, we will bring the cup back home.”
