The Super Eagles is the senior national team of Nigeria that represents the country in international competitions. Some legendary players have donned the famous white and green jersey of the national team. While a host of famous names have retired over recent years, we take a look at current players in the Super Eagles team and their state of origin.

At the moment, the face of the Super Eagles is Napoli's star-striker, Victor Osimhen. Other key players in the squad include Leicester City duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze who currently plies his trade in the Serie A, just like Osimhen.

On that note, we bring to you the current Super Eagles players and their State of origin, along with their date of birth, current club, position and other things because we feel these information are important for our readers to know more about their favourite Super Eagles players.

It is also important to to note that six current Super Eagles players were born abroad: William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, Kevin Akpoguma, Semi Ajayi, Joseph Aribo and Ademola Lookman.

He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2017; he's scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for Nigeria. Considered one of the best strikers in the world, he is known for his elite finishing, pace, strength and athleticism. He won the Scudetto with Napoli in 2023, where he also won the top goalscorer award in Seria A having scored 26 goals for the Italian champions.

Samuel Chukwueze

Kelechi Iheanacho made his senior debut for Nigeria in 2015, and played at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. In 46 appearances, he has scored 13 goals with the Super Eagles.

Joseph Oluwaseyi Temitope Aribo

Position: Midfielder

Born and raised in London, Aribo plays for the Nigeria national team, being eligible due to his heritage. He gained his first cap in 2019 and was part of their squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He has 2 goals in 23 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi

Wilfred Ndidi was called up to the senior Nigeria national football team on 8 October 2015, making his debut in the friendly game against DR Congo. He has gone on to make 52 appearances for Nigeria.

Zaidu Sanusi made his Super Eagles debut in 2020 and has appeared for Nigeria on 15 occasions. He played at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. However, Sanusi is still searching for his first goal for Nigeria.

Ahmed Musa

Position: Forward

The 2013 AFCON winner made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2010, scoring 16 goals in 108 appearances for Nigeria. Ahmed Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Musa is also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring twice against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. With 108 appearances, he is Nigeria's most capped player since November 2021.

Victor Ndukaub Sochima

Position: Goalkeeper

Victor Ndukaub Sochima is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United. He got his first call-up to the Super Eagles in 2023, but he is yet to make his debut.

Ademola Olajade Alade Lookman

Position: Forward

He was born in England to Nigerian parents and after representing England at youth level, he opted to play for Nigeria having been granted license by FIFA to do so in 2021. He has gone on to make 7 appearances for Nigeria with a goal to his name.

Alexander Chuka Iwobi

Position: Midfielder

Iwobi represented England up to under-18 level before switching to represent Nigeria. He made his senior international debut for Nigeria in October 2015 and has gone on to score 10 goals in 64 appearances for Nigeria Super Eagles. He was part of the FIFA World Cup squad in 2018 and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and 2021, finishing third at the 2019 tournament.

Francis Odinaka Uzoho

Position: Goalkeeper

At the Senior Level, Francis Uzoho made his Debut for Nigeria in the Super Eagles' 4-2 triumph over England in a Friendly Match. The Player replaced Daniel Akpeyi in-between the Sticks for Nigeria.

Semi Ajayi

Ajayi received his first call up to the senior team in August 2018 for 2019 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, he described it as a “dream” call up. He made his debut against Seychelles in the 2019 Nation cup qualifiers, coming on for the injured Chidozie Awaziem in the 73rd minute. He has 24 caps for the Super Eagles.

Daniel Bameyi

State of Origin: Unknown but of Yoruba origin

Position: Defender

Bameyi was first called up to the senior team of Nigeria in November 2022, for a friendly game against Costa Rica, going on to make his debut in the 2–0 loss. He was again called up to the senior squad for two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Guinea-Bissau.

Kenneth Omeruo

Position: Defender

On 9 January 2013, at the age of 19 he played for the senior team for the first time in a goalless draw against Cape Verde. He then went on to play in all of Nigeria's matches at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as Nigeria went on to win the competition for the third time. He has 60 caps and counting and has scored 1 goal for Nigeria.

Kevin Ufuoma Akpoguma

Position: Defender

Born to German mother and a Nigerian father, Kevin was eligible to play for both countries. He represented in youth football. In October 2018 he stated that he was open to playing to Nigeria. On 21 September 2020, Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr stated that Akpoguma has switched allegiance to play for the Nigeria national team. He has 4 caps as at 2023.

Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka

State of Origin: Born in Borno State (North-East Nigeria)

Position: Forward

Onyeka received his first call-up for the Nigeria national team on 22 September 2020 for the friendly matches against Algeria and Tunisia in Austria on 5 and 9 October 2020, respectively.[10][11] He made his debut with the Nigeria national team in a friendly 1–0 loss to Algeria on 9 October 2020. He has 12 caps with no goal(s).

Moses Simon

Position: Forward

Simon received his first call-up to the Nigeria national team by coach Daniel Amokachi in March 2015 and made his debut on the 25th of the same month in an international friendly against Uganda, when he replaced Anthony Ujah. He has 57 caps at the time of writing and has scored 8 goals for the Eagles.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

Position: Winger

After successful seasons with Fenerbahçe, on 11 November 2022, Osayi-Samuel received his first International call-up from Nigeria to play in a friendly game against Portugal.[11] He was in the starter eleven and played 90 minutes for his international debut. He has 4 caps for the Eagles as at 2023.

Paul Ebere Onuachu

In March 2019 he received his first call-up to the Nigerian senior team. On 26 March 2019, Onuachu scored his first goal for Nigeria in a friendly match against Egypt. The goal was scored within the first ten seconds of the game, and the fastest ever scored for Nigeria. He's been capped 18 times at the time of writing and has 3 goals for Nigeria.

Calvin Bassey

Bassey was born in Italy but has represented Nigeria at international level since making his debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification game against Ghana in March 2022. He has 10 caps at the time of writing.

William Paul Troost-Ekong
