Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Takumi Minamino with the 24-year-old set to undergo a medical today.
The RB Salzburg striker is expected to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at Anfield and will cost Liverpool his £7.25million release clause.
Negotiations with the Austrian club are complete and all that remains are the formalities.
The Reds are acting quickly so Minamino can join as soon as the transfer window opens on January 1.
Minamino could make his debut in the FA Cup third round Merseyside derby against Everton, as Virgil van Dijk did two years ago.
With the fixtures coming thick and fast for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are currently in Qatar for the Club World Cup, the addition of Minamino will offer fresh legs at a crucial period in the season.
The Japan international has seven goals and five assists in all competitions so far this season.

Those in charge of transfers at Anfield believe his true value to be above the £20m mark so £7.25m represents a low-risk high reward transfer for Liverpool.
