While a 1-0 scoreline reflects that the game was in the balance for the entire 90 minutes, Ederson did not actually face a shot on target from the home team and Manchester City managed to avoid defending a single corner.
“Our attackers and defenders were so solid, Vinnie [Kompany] and Aymeric [Laporte] were so solid. Kyle pushed us a lot in the second half and of course the strikers,” said Pep Guardiola.

“We knew that with the conditions and the tension, it is normal not to create a lot of chances but I was surprised at how clear the chances were in the second half, especially the one from Gabriel. [Jesus].
“The team was so solid. Here you concede a lot of fouls and corners so we could not survive. I'm delighted with the way we played. Here in the most typical English stadium, we didn’t concede one corner.
“That means a lot for how good Mikel and Rodo prepared the set-pieces yesterday so that we could control the situations.”
The hope of Liverpool fans was dashed as the Blues went for over an hour without scoring, but Sergio Aguero's goal was enough to make the difference and Guardiola suggested that the scoreline didn't reflect how well his team played.
With this Man City win at Burnley and picking up another three points, the mood in the camp is good as they get ready for the final two games of the league campaign.
“We deserved to win, we created a lot of chances. The result is short for our performance,” he said.
“I'm so delighted for the way we controlled them. We didn’t concede one corner in this stadium. We concede few chances when it is impossible to control Barnes because he is a master at controlling these balls but we controlled them.
“The pitch was so dry in the first half and the ball had problems to move. The grass was high, it was an idea from them but even with that, we didn't concede too much.
“In the second half, we made another rhythm and created three, four, or five chances. It is not easy against them because they are so solid, they defend with 10 players in the box but we did it.

“Now it is two games be calm again. We will rest and recover a bit and against Leicester – one of the most talented teams right now – we are going to [try to] get three more points to go to Brighton to get the wins we need to get back-to-back [titles].”
