While a 1-0 scoreline reflects that the game was in the balance for the entire 90 minutes, Ederson did not actually face a shot on target from the home team and Manchester City managed to avoid defending a single corner.
“Our attackers and defenders were so solid, Vinnie [Kompany] and Aymeric [Laporte] were so solid. Kyle pushed us a lot in the second half and of course the strikers,” said Pep Guardiola.
“We knew that with the conditions and the tension, it is normal not to create a lot of chances but I was surprised at how clear the chances were in the second half, especially the one from Gabriel. [Jesus].

“That means a lot for how good Mikel and Rodo prepared the set-pieces yesterday so that we could control the situations.”
The hope of Liverpool fans was dashed as the Blues went for over an hour without scoring, but Sergio Aguero's goal was enough to make the difference and Guardiola suggested that the scoreline didn't reflect how well his team played.

“I'm so delighted for the way we controlled them. We didn’t concede one corner in this stadium. We concede few chances when it is impossible to control Barnes because he is a master at controlling these balls but we controlled them.

“In the second half, we made another rhythm and created three, four, or five chances. It is not easy against them because they are so solid, they defend with 10 players in the box but we did it.
