Nigeria Super Eagles 2-0 Cameroon: What we learned
Victor Osimhen works really hard for Nigeria
Super Eagles star forward Victor Osimhen created a goal out of nothing as his constant pressure on the Cameroon defense resulted in an unfortunate loss of the ball.
It was all down to his hard work, determination, and then his selflessness to pass the ball out for Lookman who scored. He finished the game superbly for the team.
Nigeria played their best match of the AFCON so far
The Super Eagles team from the get-go showed superiority over their West African opponents. And for the first time in this tournament, Nigeria was able to shut out an opponent from registering a single shot on target in the entire match.
Every member of the team displayed doggedness and utmost concentration to get the job done, the team was also able to score twice for the first time in this AFCON, a testament of how decisive the players were in front of the goal. The Eagles registered four shots on target from eight attempts.
Ademola Lookman rose to the occasion
In a heavyweight clash with so much at stake, it was Ademola Lookman who rose to the occasion for Nigeria in a display of decisiveness.
The Atalanta forward scored either side of the half for the three-time AFCON champions to send the team straight to the quarterfinals. Lookman deservedly won Man of the Match for his brilliant display on the night.
Injury to Stanley Nwabali will be a great loss for Nigeria
The Super Eagles goalkeeper has won the hearts of many Nigerians as he has been superb in this tournament for Peseiro's team.
An unfortunate clash with a Cameroon player in the second half gave him a knock which at first wasn't a scare, but minutes later, the Chippa United goalie could no longer continue and was stretchered off in the 80 minute mark.
His injury looks serious and it's going to be a big loss for the team if tests are carried and he's ruled out of the tournament.
Who will Super Eagles play next?
Jose Peseiro's troops will trade tackles with the Black Antelopes of Angola in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The clash will take place next Friday, February 2nd, as both teams battle for a spot in the semi-finals, a matchup Nigerians will be hopeful about as the Super Eagles have continued to improve in every match that comes.
