Monkey Issues Make Liverpool Cut Sponsorship Ties

Liverpool have refused to renew their partnership with Thai coconut milk firm Chaokoh amid allegations of animal cruelty.

The Reds have denied the decision to end the deal was to do with abuse allegations from PETA.

But when the partnership concluded in July, Premier League champions Liverpool chose to cut all ties with the under-fire Thai company.

Chaokoh is accused of using monkeys as slave labour, which the coconut milk firm strongly denies.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds, though, has backed a campaign launched against the company off the back of the allegations.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) conducted an undercover investigation of Chaokoh in Thailand.

And they say findings proved the firm was mistreating animals such as monkeys who were said to have been forced to pick coconuts.

PETA visited eight farms, plus four monkey-training facilities and a coconut-picking competition.

Animals at the facilities were said to show stereotypical behaviour indicative of extreme stress.

Investigators claimed monkeys were chained to old tyres or confined to small cages.

An investigator even claimed if monkeys tried to defend themselves, their canine teeth may be pulled out.
