NFF to inaugurate interim NPFL committee on Friday

All is now set for the inauguration of the Newly composed Interim Management Committee of Nigeria Professional Football League.

President, Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, will inaugurate the committee as composed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare.

It will be recalled that prior to the inauguration of the new NFF board, the Sports ministry announced an interim committee to oversee the affairs of the league and its smooth running.

In a press statement announcing the composition of the IMC, the sports ministry stated that the move was “in line with the 10-year Football Master Plan as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the revitalisation of the domestic league” adding that the IMC would be in place to “oversee the affairs of the league until a proper professional league board is put in place statutorily.”

The inauguration will take place at the NFF Conference Room inside the NFF Secretariat, Abuja on Friday by 11am.

When the minister visited the Olympic team in Ibadan on Wednesday, he was quizzed by journalists on the status of the IMC and he have this response.

“I’ll prefer the new NFF President to answer this question. As a minister and ministry, we have identified that our league needs a rebirth and we have worked with the NFF in tandem to make sure that tough decisions are taken and in the right direction.

“The NFF will get the right support they need from the ministry on this decision,” he concluded.

The 15-man IMC has as its Chairman, the former Director-General of the Nigeria Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye.

He will be deputised by Chairman, Akwa United FC, Paul Bassey, while the CEO of the defunct League Management Committee, Davison Owumi, will serve as the committee’s Head of Operations.

Other members are Kunle Soname, ex-international, Daniel Amokachi; Calvin Onwuka, Aliyu Adamu, Danladi Ibrahim, Mohammed Sa’idu, Poubeni Ogun and Awalu Baba Jada.

There will also be a representative of the NFF and the Nigeria Police Force as members, while Olumide Bamiduro will serve as secretary.
