Ekong, Osimhen set to return to action

Ekong, Osimhen set to return to action

William Troost-Ekong and Victor Osimhen could return to action for their respective sides this weekend.

Ekong has successfully recovered from a hamstring problem that ruled him out of Nigeria’s game against Algeria and could feature for Watford on Saturday.

The defender has made two league appearances for the Hornets so far this season, and Head Coach Slaven Bilić confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that the 29-year-old is in contention for a return after missing the Stoke and Swansea games.

Bilic said, “Ekong trained with us yesterday (Thursday October 6) – he looks good, and he’s definitely going to be in the squad. That’s a big positive for us, particularly with our injury problems at the back.”

“It wasn’t an injury that needed a long break, and so he trained yesterday. He looks good and is definitely going to be in the squad.

“Cathcart and Gaspar won’t be involved. With Sierralta we are going to see how he is. It wasn’t a big injury and so we are assessing him.”

Bilic also revealed in his presser that Tom Dele-Bashiru is making good progress after he returned to training following his lateral collateral ligament injury in August.

On the other hand, Osimhen could be available for selection when Napoli take on Cremonese on Sunday according to reports.

Osimhen has been out of action since he sustained a hamstring injury in Napoli’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League last month.

The 23-year-old striker returned to individual training last week, and he was expected to be on the bench for Napoli’s clash at Ajax on Tuesday. Unfortunately, he was not considered fit for the game.

However, according to reports from ilmattino, Osimhen looks set to be named in Napoli’s squad that will take on Cremonese at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.

Still, the Nigerian striker may only make a cameo appearance to prevent a relapse. Moreover, the Partenopeans have been firing on all cylinders since Osimhen’s injury, with Simeone and Raspadori in hot form.

The Partenopeans are top of the Serie A table, and they would look to maintain their twelve-game unbeaten run at Cremona.
