Several Super Eagles players have unclear futures as the 2023/24 season winds to an end and may be leaving their clubs this summer.
Many factors have contributed to these Super Eagles players finding themselves in their current position.
Some players have a contract that ends in the summer, while others have put in exemplary performances this season and have put several clubs on their tails.
There are others whose performances have been a disappointment, and their clubs are willing to let them off their payroll.
From the numerous Super Eagles players playing in Europe, we give you the top six who should depart from their clubs this summer and why.
Six Super Eagles players who may change clubs this summer
Alhassan Yusuf
Alhassan Yusuf has become an integral part of the Belgian club Royal Antwerp, but the chances of remaining in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League remain uncertain.
Yusuf is one of the Super Eagles players at AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, where Nigerian finished as losing finalists.
Yusuf came close to signing for Premier League sides Wolves and Leicester City in 2020 before the deal fell through. He has just a year left on his current contract, and if his Belgian side cannot tie him to a new deal, they might be willing to cash in on him this summer.
One Premier League and two Portuguese sides have previously indicated interest in signing Yusuf and should resume skirmishes for his services this summer.
West Ham, Porto and recently Sporting Lisbon were the clubs taking an interest in the midfielder who can play in both defensive and central positions.
Kelechi Iheanacho
Despite Leicester City winning promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt, It was a torrid 2023/24 season for Kelechi Iheanacho, and he is one of the Super Eagles players likely to move this summer.
The Foxes finished as champions in the Championship, but Iheanacho’s future seems away from the King Power stadium as his contract with the 2016 Premier League champions ends on June 30 2024.
Iheanacho is keen to remain with the Foxes, but discussions on a contract renewal have not started, suggesting that the forward might have played his last game for Leicester City.
The former Manchester City forward made just 23 Championship appearances this season and scored five goals with one assist.
A few clubs are interested in the services of the striker, with Aston Villa leading the pack.
Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League, and it should be an exciting proposition for Iheanacho, but the Villans will have competition from Crystal Palace and Besiktas.
Wilfred Ndidi
In 2018, Wilfred Ndidi signed a six-year contract with the Foxes, but like all good things, there is an expiry date, and his deal with Leicester City will expire next month.
Unlike Iheanacho, Ndidi was a more constant feature for the Foxes, making 32 Championship appearances this term and helping the club return to the Premier League.
Ndidi has previously stated his intent to remain at the King Power stadium but would not mind a change of scenery. With the midfielder's current situation, he seems a sure bet to depart the club this summer.
Ndidi is one of the most vital Leicester and Super Eagles players who might be playing for another club next season.
Ndidi scored four goals and five assists this season. It was enough to convince Everton and Crystal Palace to take an interest in him.
Gabriel Osho
One of the newly invited Super Eagles players, Gabriel Osho, seems set for a move away from his present club this summer.
The Luton Town defender, who signed a short-term contract with the Hatters, will be out of contract in the summer.
The club would be keen to retain his services to help the club return to the Premier League next season, but his status as a free agent has put several sides on his tail like Blood Hounds on a scent.
Despite a knee injury that kept him out for several games, Osho put in a 21-game Premier League shift as Luton went down to the Championship.
Ange Postecoglou is keen on adding Osho to his squad to bolster his defence next season.
Spurs are not the only side interested in his services. Newcastle United seem keen on bringing Osho to St James Park.
Raphael Onyedika
Raphael Onyedika is one of the Super Eagles players who broke forth in the past year following his brilliant performances for Club Brugge.
The Belgian side seems to be resigned to losing the Nigerian midfielder during the 2024 summer transfer window that they have even signed a replacement for him.
Club Brugge signed Luzern midfielder Ardon Jashari following the flurry of interest in the 22-year-old Super Eagles star.
The former FC Midtjylland midfielder has attracted interest from across Europe, including the Premier League.
Premier League clubs, Everton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are keen to acquire his services, while Turkish giants Galatasaray have also thrown their hat in the ring. Club Brugge will be demanding nothing less than €15 million.
Victor Osimhen
The travails of one of the highest-ranked Super Eagles players – Victor Osimhen, is well-documented. The star forward has had a tumultuous season with Napoli.
For a long time, the media has been awash with Osimhen leaving the 2023 Serie A champions, but no one seems to be able to pinpoint his destination this summer.
One club that is out of contention for Osimhen is Real Madrid. With Kylian Mbappe heading to Madrid, there would be no space for the Super Eagles star.
Two clubs are at the forefront of acquiring the services of OSimhen during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea, who should be in the Europa League next season, have long indicated an interest in the Napoli forward. However, the departure of Mauricio Pochettino could put a spanner in their works.
The prospects of landing the forward now are not as bright.
PSG is also looking to replace Mbappe, and Osimhen fits the profile for the Paris club. Arsenal has also been reported to be keen on signing the player and intends to use Gabriel Jesus as a sweetener.
