Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has been one of the shining lights for Leicester City in the Championship this season with his contributions that has helped to catapult the Foxes to the top of the standings.

The former Manchester City man started the season on the bench and was only given 15 minutes against Coventry by coach Enzo Maresca. 

He then got more minutes in the next two games against Huddersfield and Cardiff as the Foxes continued their winning start to the new season. Iheanacho made an assist in the 2-1 win over Rotherham to ensure his side extended their winning run to four games. 

Iheanacho’s first Championship goal eventually came on match day seven against Norwich City and he has not looked back since then.

Leicester City started the new season on a fine run with wins in their opening four games of the season. Wins over Coventry, Huddersfield Town, Cardiff and Rotherham set them on their way, but Kelechi Iheanacho struggled to find joy in those games accumulating 217 minutes and providing just one assist.

Iheanacho eventually scored his first goal of the season in the Carabao Cup win over Burton Albion away from home in August. The Nigerian forward played 76 minutes and also added an assist in the win for his side.

Following his goal in the cup, Iheanacho got his first Championship goal of the season against Norwich City at Carrow Road as Leicester City won 2-0 to continue their impressive start – six wins out of seven opening games.

After playing two minutes in the 1-0 win over Bristol City, Kelechi Iheanacho bumped into life in October as he scored in three consecutive games to keep his side top of the Championship log.

The former Manchester City man scored in the 4-1 win over Blackburn where he played just 14 minutes, he scored again in the 3-0 win over Preston where he got 28 minutes and another goal in the 2-0 win over Stoke City where he started the match.

The Nigerian forward continued his goal scoring form as he netted for the Foxes in gameweek 12 against Swansea City where Leicester won 1-3 away from home.

Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored just eight goals last season, has already scored six times in just 14 games this season and still has a number of games to go this campaign.

Kelechi Iheanacho has been at Leicester City since 2017 after spending two seasons at Manchester City.

The Super Eagles star has enjoyed some success with the Foxes, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield titles with the side. 

The 27-year-old has scored 61 goals and made 35 assists in 220 appearances in his Leicester City career according to Transfermarket, and he is one of the highest scoring foreigners in the club’s history. 

In fact, he is currently sixth on the Leicester all-time goalscorers' list and could move behind Jamie Vardy with just five more goals this campaign.

Kelechi Iheanacho is the current recipient of the Leicester City player of the year award and has started making his mark this term as he hopes to end on a high.
