Victor Boniface has emerged as an early candidate  for signing of the season in the Bundesliga due to his brilliant performances. The new Bayer Leverkusen signing has started the season in fantastic form with three goals and an assist to his name in three matches in all competitions.

Last time out, Bayer Leverkusen took on Borussia Monchengladbach in the second gameweek of the German Bundesliga game of the season and Boniface featured in the starting Lineup.

Leverkusen were looking for their second win of the season after an opening win against Bayer Leverkusen where Victor Boniface starred in and provided an assist.

The forward was once again the main protagonist of the action as he got the opening goal early on in the match.

In the 18th minute, Boniface rose highest to connect with a headed pass from  Alex Grimaldo to open the scoring.

In the 53rd minute, he got his second goal of the game. After good play on the dribble by another bright and young talent in Florian Wirtz, the young German played Boniface through on goal and the striker finished brilliantly for his second and his side’s third.

Between his goals was a Jonathan Tah strike right before halftime.

The performance by Boniface was a brilliant one. Apart from his goal, he showed great all round performance where he completed one dribble as well. He won two fouls for his team and showed why the €20 million paid for him from Union Saint Gilloise could be one of the bargains of the summer, particularly in the striker market these days.

His form and brilliant performances to start the season adds to a healthy selection headache that the Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has. The Super Eagles squad has quality from top to bottom but it is overflowing with massive talents in the forward positions.

We already know about Victor Osimhen who is the defacto first-choice striker in the team but there are also the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi who is in record breaking form for the Premier League club, Gift Orban who is one of the biggest striker prospects in Europe at 21, Terrem Moffi, Cyriel Dessers and so much more, Victor Boniface has emerged as a name that can challenge the striker positions.

Why is Nigeria producing so many top strikers at the moment?

Nigeria has a golden generation of strikers in Europe at the same time and it begs the question, why has the country produced and is still producing so many goal scoring talents?

The working theory on this which we have come up with is that because attacking talents are easier to notice by scouts who travel to Africa to poach talents, players in that position are given more priority and the best athletes choose to be attacking players.

If you look at the list of strikers previously mentioned, you will notice that the majority of them are quick and strong physically with each of them being superior athletes. Their technical levels notwithstanding.

Super Eagles supporters will hope that Victor Boniface, as well as other Nigerians in his position continue to play their best football as Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 nears.
