Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface continued his fine form for Bayer Leverkusen as he played a key role in his side’s win in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The 22-year-old striker made two assists in his side’s 3-2 win in the topsy-turvy encounter at Hoffenheim, marking a 10th consecutive victory for Die Werkself.

Xabi Alonso’s men have been in great form since the start of the season and they continued that run with another gritty performance on the road to stay on top of the Bundesliga.

Victor Boniface back with an assist in the first half

Boniface, who missed the midweek DFB Pokal game against Sandhausen returned to the starting lineup for this tricky fixture at Hoffenheim.

Leverkusen were in no mood to waste time as they looked to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 14 matches when they took the lead after some fine exchanges between Florian Wirtz and Victor Boniface in the ninth minute.

From wide on the left, Wirtz played the ball inside to the Super Eagles striker, who then sent a cut-back to Wirtz to steer the ball past goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.

Xabi Alonso’s men continued to control the tempo for the rest of the first half as the hosts struggled to get going apart from a Robert Skov shot on the half-hour mark which went well over.

With that sustained pressure, Die Werkself went ahead to double their lead in first-half stoppage time with a simple corner routine. Jonas Hofmann rolled the ball to Álex Grimaldo, who coolly placed the ball into the top corner with his gorgeous first touch.

Second-half goals and Victor Boniface’s match-winning assist

Having scored in every Bundesliga game this term, the home side almost got a goal back when Maximilian Beier forced a save from Hradecky at his near post, before moving past some challenges to get the rebound off target.

A few minutes later the hosts would eventually get their goal to continue their record of scoring in every league game this term. Hradecky’s clearance was intercepted by Anton Stach, whose long-range shot went over the head of the goalkeeper and into the unguarded net.

The comeback was complete just two minutes later when Beier’s strike from distance came off the post and rebounded perfectly into the path of Wout Weghorst, who tapped home.

Boniface, who was largely quiet apart from the assist for the game’s opening goal, repeated the trick again to fashion out the winner.

The striker got free in the Hoffenheim box before mistiming his header, but possession very well before setting up Grimaldo to send another curling effort past Baumann to regain the lead for Bayer.

Leverkusen took control of the game after that goal and went ahead to see out the win.

The win took Boniface’s Leverkusen five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga standings regardless of whatever happens between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund later in the match day.

Victor Boniface in the news for the right reasons

Boniface continues to deliver the goods for Leverkusen and everyone at the club will be pleased with the way his move to the Bundesliga has turned out so far. Another person who would be happy is Super Eagles gaffer Jose Peseiro.

Since his debut for the Super Eagles last month, has been impressive for Leverkusen and if he continues like this, he could be playing a keyrole at the AFCON for Nigeria or possibly get a big move away from the German club.
