Another Foreign-Born Star Dumps Nigeria For German National Team

Coach of the German national team Joachim Low has extended a first-time invitation to Nigerian descent Felix Uduokhai ahead of the country’s upcoming matches against the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Spain.

The 23-year-old centre-back, born to a Nigerian father and a German mother, has seen his impressive performance caught the eye of the Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr.

The former Bayern Munich defender had played his part in convincing Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma to switch his international allegiance from Germany to Nigeria.

And Rohr had expressed hopes of pulling the same move on Uduokhai.

But Die Mannschaft have won the race for the defender’s allegiance, and he will likely make his competitive debut for the former European and World champions when Low’s side take on the Czech Republic in a friendly match in Leipzig next Wednesday.

He could also feature in Germany’s Uefa Nations League games against Ukraine and Spain on November 14 and 17 respectively.
