Born Asisat Lamina Oshoala in Ikorodu, Lagos State into a Muslim family on October 9, 1994, the Super Falcons star is the most celebrated African women’s footballer of all time.

Her story started in Lagos, which happens to be her state of origin. She was born in Ikorodu, a town that shares a border with Ogun State, another Southwestern state in Nigeria. She had part of her childhood in Ikorodu before moving to Mushin with her family. She had her primary and secondary education at Victoria Island and Ikoyi, two of Lagos’ high-brow areas.

Her heart, however, was with her friends on the football dirt pitches where she played in Mushin. Football was her heart and soul, but she still did not see a path to a professional career in the sport. Her dream was to be a lawyer but she held on to football which made her happy.

Eventually, she was signed by a local club, FC Robo, and the rest, as they say, is history.

As an international football superstar, she is barely in Nigeria or in Lagos, which is her state of origin.

Having played in Rivers State, a state in South Eastern Nigeria; England, China and Barcelona (at the time of writing) since she was a teenager, she has not spent enough time in Lagos.
