Ousmane Dembele has been confirmed to have a complete hamstring tear in his right leg, according to Barcelona on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old sustained the injury during a training session on Monday while stepping up his recovery from a right hamstring issue that has sidelined him since November.
Barca so far haven't provided a time frame for his recovery, however, multiple reports in Spain claim Dembele will be ruled out for the rest of the season.
Here‘s what a Barca statement says: “Tests carried out on Tuesday on Ousmane Dembele have shown that the player has a complete proximal hamstring tear in his right thigh.
“In the next few hours, a decision will be made on the treatment to be followed for his recovery.”
Dembele's latest injury will be a bitter setback for head coach Quique Setien, who was counting on the player’s return to reinforce his attacking options since Luis Suarez had been ruled out until May following knee surgery.
Setien said Dembele would be an “amazing” addition when he regained fitness, with Barca not able to bring in a forward during the January transfer window.
