African heavy hitters in the Premier League for the best FPL team
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah remains the most expensive African player in FPL and a staple in any best FPL team you can think of.
The Egyptian forward has been at Anfield since 2017 and has racked up the most FPL points in that time. He was the first player to hit the 300-point mark when he earned fantasy football managers 303 points in the 2017/18 season.
Nobody was able to get as close to him again until the 2021/22 season when he hit 265 points. Not even Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, who both hit the 30-goal mark in the league last season, were able to cross the 300-goal mark. Haaland scored 272 points while Kane got 263 points. Salah still came third with 239 points despite what was a poor season by his standards.
Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson is the next most expensive African player in FPL and one that promises good returns. However, the Senegal international does not have a precedent to draw from which could lead to many fantasy football managers choosing against including him in their best FPL team.
Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo is a choice pick for many fantasy managers who want cheap but stable returns in their team. The Brentford man costs £0.5 million less than Jackson. With star striker Ivan Toney out of the team on suspension due to gambling activities, expect Mbeumo to score and assist more this season for the Bees.
Best FPL team of African players and their prices
With Edouard Mendy now in Saudi Arabia, Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana is the best African goalkeeper in the league. He is a shoo-in for any fantasy manager looking to build the best FPL team. He costs £5 million, which leaves a fantasy manager with £95 million to build their best FPL team.
For defenders, there is the solid option of Ola Aina, who returns to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest at the weekend. The AFCON 2023 hopeful costs £4.5 million, which is the sweet spot for many fantasy football managers in terms of player pricing.
Taiwo Awoniyi is another shoo-in for an all-African FPL team and at £6.5 million, he presents good value.
Below is our all-African best FPL team that is guaranteed to give you value in the course of the season:
Onana (£5m)
Aina (£4.5m)
Aguerd (£4.5m)
Lamptey (4.5m)
Onyeka (£5m)
Salah (12.5m)
Ndiaye (£5.5m)
Iwobi (£5.5m)
Awoniyi (£6.5m)
Jackson (£7m)
Mbeumo (£6.5m)
