Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly not be in the final three for the 2018 Ballon d'Or.
Luka Modric looks to have a clear run now at picking up the Ballon d'Or to go with his The Best FIFA Award.
Tuttosport claims Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane will join Modric on the final shortlist.
There appears to be a craving from the football community for a new star to win the prize too, with Edinson Cavani's view that a French player should win.
“Varane may well be there, Griezmann, Mbappe… I think a Frenchman should win,” the PSG striker told RMC. “There are other players who could win it, but it should be a Frenchman, they have won the World Cup.”.
“Modric has had a great season, but his team-mate Varane won the Champions League and the World Cup. Modric was a finalist and had a great campaign, but Varane deserves it more.”
The order is not clear though, but Modric is the favourite, after RFI reported that half the votes had been collated by November 9 and the Real Madrid and Croatia maestro was at present top of the list, with his club team-mate Varane the runner-up and PSG sensation Mbappe third.
